Fiji born and internationally renowned cardiac surgeon, Dr Parma Nand has passed away in New Zealand.
Originally from Labasa, he went on to achieve name and fame in the field of specialist and has been described as “a giant amongst surgeons.”
“Dr Nand achieved name, fame and acclaim. But he never for once forgot that Fiji was his land of birth,” said Deputy Prime Minister, Prof Biman Prasad.
“Until recently, he led a team to come to Fiji and volunteer their service to perform cardiac surgeries each year since 2006”.
“This helped many, many patients, not only in terms of their health but also saved them from financial strain.”
“The yearly visits also assisted local surgeons and medical professionals to gain invaluable experience”.
“Dr Nand also had reputable medical publications to his name”.
“Dr Parma Nand was not only an embodiment of wisdom in his profession but was deeply humble, kind, caring and a true son of Fiji. Fiji is poorer for his passing”.
“May Dr Parma Nand have eternal rest and may his soul have eternal life”.
