MAKING way for more youths to be included in the Nabua Maroons rugby team has been a key goal for the side coming into the Suva Rugby Union’s weekly competitions.
This was the message relayed by their assistant forwards coach, Neori Buli as the team won 35-13 over USP in the Escott grade in round six of the Koroturaga Championship at the USP grounds last Saturday.
Buli explained how the team had lost twice earlier in the competition because some players were new to the pace of the tournament, but were gradually getting a feel of it.
“We lost mainly because the team was newly formed from last year with a handful of players from last year and most students then decided to join the team this year,” Buli said.
He acknowledged the work of the team committee in ensuring there was a sufficient number of younger and senior players.
“The committee allowed the age group level (within the team) to not have a large amount of older players but to have a mix of grassroots and national-level players with a handful of older ones to help the younger ones through.”
Meanwhile, he added the team continued to learn new things and improve on themselves every week.
