THE coalition’s pursuit to extend the Cooperation Agreement with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) will focus on the digital transformation of Government.
In Parliament last week, Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica said the agreement, which had been in existence for years, had been focused on economic resilience and legislative changes.
“In essence the agreement captures some of the intent of the current Government and it is somewhat an extension of what’s been happening from the previous government which is an endeavour to continue to look at investment laws, enhance regulatory efficiency and support attraction of quality investments into the country which obviously translates into real jobs and economic opportunities,” Mr Kamikamica said.
“One of the particular areas of interest and why we are quite keen to get this agreement in place which the experts call reengineering.
“It is always a good precursor before one enters into digitisation.
“One main motivation behind the resigning of the agreement is to particularly pursue those ministries that are in the digitisation process.
“It is free of charge and will allow us to actually start progressing all government service in terms of digital transformation.
“There will be a technical advisor who will support the ministry on what it needs to do. It is a very useful effective agreement.”
He added this initiative was initially captured in the process for starting a business on digital platforms.
“I have talked about the starting-a-business process which is now already in existence and the current work on the business permit approvals in conjunction with the Minister for Local Government.
“These are some of the things that came out of the IFC cooperation agreement.”
