The national Fiji Airways 7s side lost to New Zealand 17-12 in their opening match of the HSBC SVNS World Championship in Los Angeles.
Fiji’s first try was scored by Joji Nasova while Filipe Sauturaga got the second.
At half-time, Fiji led 12-0.
The second half belonged to New Zealand with tries to Tone Ng Shiu, Dylan Collier and Saofai Maka.
Fiji will play Australia in their second pool match at 9.07am this morning and their last pool game is against Spain at 12.13pm today.
