TOURISM transport operator TEWAKA recently added four brand new Electric Vehicles (EVs) to its fleet in a conscious move towards environmental sustainability.

The $600,000 investment by the fully locally owned, multi-award-winning is expected to improve the company’s “green” service offering to customers.

“TEWAKA acknowledges the global trend favouring environmentally sustainable modes of travel, and the integration of EV’s into the TEWAKA fleet is aligned to its strategic commitment to reducing its carbon footprint,” managing director James Sowane said in a statement released by the company.

“The $600,000 investment includes four 7-seat Maxus MIFA 9 Elite Electrical Vehicle plus infrastructural support costs that include charging stations.

“The MIFA 9 Electrical Vehicles have a decent range of 435km when fully charged, the interior finishing, seat comfort and safety features are of the highest standards,” Mr Sowane said.

Questions regarding importation processes and challenges were sent to TEWAKA, who responded the importation of the EVs was carried out by Vision Motors.

“One of the challenges we encountered was setting up the charging port,” Mr Sowane said.

“We understand that the Government is working to streamline this process, and we look forward to these improvement as we continue to expand our EV fleet.”

The new EVs, he added, are already in operation alongside their regular vehicles and have started transferring tourists, with client feedback being “very positive.”

TEWAKA is the official transport provider for a number of large hotels and resorts whose guests are more conscious of their environmental impact and there is a growing preference for EV’s due to

their lower emissions and eco-friendly benefits.
