Reach out for help, said Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Sashi Kiran.

Her comments this evening is related to death of a woman and injuries to other women in alleged domestic violence cases.

Fiji Police said there was a murder-suicide in Suva, another woman was attacked violently in another case in Suva while a man is also alleged to have wounded his wife in Nadi.

“In each of these tragic cases, innocent children have lost their parents, leaving them emotionally scarred for life,” she said.

“These deaths were avoidable, and their impact has left families shattered and mourning.”

“This is a painful reality we must confront, and I call on every Fijian to join in a collective commitment to zero tolerance of all forms of violence in our homes and communities.”

Ms Kiran adds prevention committees must be established in each community, to educate, intervene, and de-escalate situations before they escalate to violence.

“We must work together to stop this cycle of destruction.”

“I urge women who are in abusive relationships, or who fear they could be in harm’s way, to reach out for help.”

“Violence is never the answer—if a relationship is no longer working, it is better to separate amicably and with dignity. There is always a better way.”
