INTERNATIONAL Mother Earth Day 2025 was celebrated on Tuesday in Suva with the theme “Our Power, Our Planet”.
A special tree planting event was also held, led by the Minister for Environment and Climate Change Mosese Bulitavu.
He highlighted how Fiji’s lush landscape, vibrant coral reefs, and rich marine life were a testament to nature’s beauty.
“Yet, we are not immune to the global environmental crisis,” Mr Bulitavu said.
“Land degradation affects the well-being of 3.2 billion people worldwide, undermining food security and livelihoods.
“Moreover, 75 per cent of the earth’s land has become permanently drier over the past 30 years, leading to increased droughts, wildfires and food insecurity.
“These challenges are not isolated; they are interconnected and demand our collective response.”
