THE Swire Shipping Fijian Drua have been forced into a late change to their line-up ahead of today’s Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific clash against the NSW Waratahs, with head coach Glen Jackson confirming that co-captain Iosefo Masi will not be taking the field due to personal reasons.
In Masi’s absence, Inia Tabuavou steps in at inside centre, donning the number 12 jersey, while Tuidraki Samusamuvodre slots into the number 13 spot, reshuffling the Drua’s midfield combination.
“We are settled for our midfield combination that we had in the beginning of the year.
“This change brings in players who know our system well and are ready to step up,” Jackson said.
Another notable shift comes on the wing, with fan-favourite Selestino Ravutaumada returning to the matchday squad and listed on the bench.
“We were trying to give Selestino a chance to get his energy back and it worked really well,” Jackson explained.
“I think he’s buzzing, he’s excited to get out there, and we’re looking forward to seeing him back on the field.”
As the Drua prepare for one of their toughest challenges yet, Jackson said the team is fired up and eager to put on a strong performance.
“Look, it’s an interesting one. I know our boys are super excited to always play the Waratahs.
“With the season that’s gone, this is a big game for us. I just want the boys to go out and have fun on a beautiful Easter weekend.”
He added that the team hopes for a strong showing from fans, who have been a pillar of support through the season.
“Hopefully we get a good crowd there and just show what these boys are made of. I think they’ve got a fair bit of energy and pressure from what’s been happening this year, so as coaches, we just want them to go out, enjoy the physical combat, and play with passion.”
To the fans, Jackson offered a heartfelt message of appreciation.
“I know that the greatest fans in the world are passionate about the team’s performance. High expectations, obviously which is great. So, the boys are desperate to repay the favour and show how much it means to wear the jersey.”
Kick-off is set at 2:05pm.
