DEFENDING champions in both the men’s and women’s divisions of the Easter Volleyball Championship, the Mid Central Volleyball Association is aiming to retain its titles this weekend, with a major boost from member of parliament Lynda Tabuya.

Lynda Tabuya, founder of the Lynda Tabuya Foundation personally handed over brand-new uniforms to the association’s six teams, three men’s and three women’s at Nepani Church Hall yesterday ahead of the tournament.

“This is the first event supported by my foundation,” Tabuya said.

“National issues only matter when they make an impact locally. Supporting grassroots sports like volleyball helps young people choose positive activities.”

She added that sports can be a powerful platform to shape lives, which is why her foundation is focusing on local initiatives.

Mid Central Volleyball Association board member Nemaia Koto welcomed the support, calling it timely.

“We’re grateful to Lynda Tabuya for coming through at a critical time. This is our first partnership with her foundation, and it means a lot to the players,” Koto said.

The teams have been preparing for months, training at the Fiji National University gym and other venues in the city.

Koto said the goal is clear and that is to defend their titles.

“Our aim is to reach the finals again in both divisions. The players are ready, and this support gives them added motivation,” he said.

Mid Central volleyball is fielding three teams to the competition.

Mid Central 3 will face Lautoka Green in its first match. Mid Central 2 takes on Raiwai 1 while Mid Central 1 plays Suva Red.
