Bail extended for former FBC CEO and CFO

THE case of former Fiji Broadcasting Corporation CEO Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and the company’s current chief financial officer Vimlesh Sagar has finally moved to the pretrial conference stage.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum and Mr Sagar appeared before Magistrate Krishan Prasad in Suva today.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum is charged with abuse of office for gain and an alternative charge of general dishonesty causing a loss.

Mr Sagar is charged with general dishonesty causing a loss for allegedly approving payments to be made to R Patel Lawyers without the approval of the FBC board, amounting to $15,075.88.

Both prosecution and defence lawyers have confirmed receiving the requested disclosures sought earlier.

Bail for the men has been extended and the case adjourned to May 20.
