The Lautoka City Council has praised one of its workers for apprehending a man who had robbed a woman and fled with $6000.

The robbery took place on Vitogo Parade on April 4 when Lalita Devi had come out of the Western Union branch near ANZ Bank.

A youth snatched her cash and ran off towards Marine Drive.

Peni Sigata, saw the Ms Devi shouting for help.

“I instantly made up my mind that I had to do something,” said Mr Sigata, who caught the robber and recovered the stolen money.

“When I look back at what happened, I just acted on instinct. I hope more people see the value in looking out for one another. We all have a role to play in keeping our community safe.”
