Fiji Airways men’s 7s forward Sakiusa Siqila says the team is fully focused and ready for the HSBC SEVENS World Championship in Los Angeles from May 3-4.

Siqila made the comments during an interview with the media after their training session at the University of the South Pacific grounds in Laucala, Suva yesterday.

He said the team had quickly regrouped following their Singapore 7s win, where they beat Kenya in the final and finished second overall in the 7s series standings.

“The preparation for LA sevens has been going well. The boys are fully focused and know what needs to be done in LA,” Siqila said.

He said one of the first things discussed in camp was the need for strong connection and communication within the team.

“The first thing we talked about when we came back into camp was the connection between the boys and our communication,” he said.

Siqila acknowledged that there are still areas the team needs to improve but believes more game time will help them polish their combinations ahead of the LA tournament.

He also reflected on how the team handled public criticism after their disappointing outing in Hong Kong.

“Yes, after the Hong Kong sevens, the boys saw the posts in the media about the loss,” he said.

Siqila said the team’s goal and standard have remained the same throughout the season, and they continue to be motivated by their purpose and the support from their families.

Fiji is in a tough pool in LA with Spain, Australia and New Zealand.

“We know it’s a tough pool, but we are ready for the challenge. We can’t wait to go to LA and show what we’ve been preparing for.”

The championship will be held at Dignity Health Sports Park.
