Schools gear up for rugby league quarter-finals

Excitement builds as the Vodafone Fiji Secondary School Rugby League national quarter-final is set to kick off this Saturday at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

The competition was officially launched yesterday at Vodafone headquarters in Tamavua, and teams are eagerly looking forward to showcasing their skills on the field.

The Western secondary schools will feature a total of 19 schools with 32 teams, while the South-East secondary schools will have 29 schools with 46 teams.

President Naisa Koto of FSSRL described the moment as a significant occasion in acknowledging the raw talent and unwavering dedication that embody Fiji Secondary Schools rugby league.

“The journey to the national finals has been nothing short of extraordinary, with schools from all corners of the nation competing and displaying the best of Fijian rugby league talent,” said Koto.

“Witnessing moments of brilliance and observing potential future rugby league stars has been a highlight of this journey.”

As the president, Toko congratulated all teams that have reached the national quarter-finals, wishing them the best of luck.

Vodafone Fiji sponsorship manager Adriu Vakarau expressed delight in being part of this prestigious event, emphasising the company’s commitment to grassroots development in sports and youth empowerment.

“At Vodafone, we believe in the power of sports to shape young lives, foster teamwork, and build a strong sense of discipline and resilience,” said Vakarau.

“To all the teams competing this Saturday in the national quarter-final, we wish you the best of luck, may you play with passion, determination, and sportsmanship.”

The national quarterfinals and finals will take place at Prince Charles Park in Nadi, with the semifinals scheduled to be held at Garvey Park in Tavua.
