Families seek answers in missing children cases

Listen to this article:

THREE children remain missing over the last three years, with families still pleading for answers.

One of the missing is Chirag Murti, who vanished in Taveuni on November 12, 2021, just after midday.

His father Shyam Murti said he received little information from authorities.

“I have not received any update from police or been told there’s a lead,” he said.

Mr Murti told this newspaper that he would not stop looking for his missing son.

“They have also told me that if I find out anything to give them a call. I’m only asking for us to continue working together to find my son.”

He remains hopeful that Chirag is still alive.

“I don’t know where he is or who he’s with, but I know he is alive. One day, I will see him again.”

The second case is that of Peniana Masuciri Vadei, who was 18 when she disappeared from a beach in Maui Bay on September 7, 2022.

She was on a trip with her mother, brother, and his friend during a public holiday.

Also still missing is Talei Kuta Raikadroka from Kalekana in Lami, who was three years old when reported missing.

Like Chirag and Peniana, her whereabouts remain unknown.

Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu said these cases remain open.

“The cases are being handled by the cold case team,” he said.

For now, Mr Murti, said they would continue to pray, hoping for any clue that might bring their loved one home.
