Touch rugby receives timely boost

The Fiji Rugby Touch team to the Federation of International (FIT) Touch World Cup tournament received a major boost when they received their sponsored outfits at Albert Park in Suva yesterday.

A day after presenting their i tatau to His Excellency the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, the team was handed a life line at the very last minute when The Hot Bread Kitchen and Tabusoro Fiji Pty Limited came forward to sponsor the teams.

The Hot Bread Kitchen Sales and Marketing Director Selina Samisoni said the company was honoured to be supporting a team that would be taking part in an international event.

“It’s very special to be here and presenting the jerseys to the players. The company is glad it can help out in the team’s preparations and hope they make Fiji proud,” Samisoni said.

Operations Manager for Tabusoro Fiji Pty Limited Saula Lawa said the sponsorship played a big part in the development of the sport in the country.

“The company believes sponsoring sporting teams not only improves its development but also helps the sport to excel,” Lawa said.

Meanwhile captain for the Men’s 30s Team Meli Moce said they were very grateful for the support shown from the two companies.

“Indeed it’s a big thing for us to be sponsored at the very last minute. We didn’t have any co-operate sponsors till now and when they came forward it was a blessing,” Moce said.

“This will be a motivating factor for us to do our very best at the World Cup.”

The team comprises of six categories (Team Women, Team 40s, Team 30s, Team 35s, Mix and Men’s Open) and will leave for Australia this week.

The Federation of International Touch (FIT) Touch World Cup tournament begins on April 29 and ends on May 3 at Coffs Harbour in Sydney.
