Fiji’s national football team has settled in Wellington, shifting its focus to final preparations for their biggest challenge yet, the FIFA World Cup 2026 Oceania Qualifiers semi-final against New Zealand.

With less than nine days left, the Bula Boys are sharpening their tactics and conditioning after trimming their squad to 23 players.

Eight overseas-based players have been included, with six from New Zealand and two from Australia bolstering the squad’s experience for the crucial encounter.

Team manager Kartik Reddy emphasised the importance of the match, stating it is a perfect test for the players against top regional competition.

“The team is aware of the challenge ahead and we are making the most of this final phase to be in the best possible shape for March 21,” Reddy said.

The squad includes goalkeepers Akuila Mateisuva, Joela Biuvanua and Australia-based Jerome Narayan.

Defenders named are Scott Wara, Gabby Matansiga, Semi Nabenu (New Zealand-based), Sterling Vasconcellos (New Zealand-based), Filipe Baravilala, Mohammed Nabeel (New Zealand-based) and Ivan Kumar.

Midfielders include Tevita Waranaivalu, Leroy Jennings (Australia-based), Brendan McMullen (New Zealand-based), Patrick Joseph, Setareki Hughes, Merrill Nand, Mohammed Raheem (New Zealand-based) and Penisoni Tirau.

The forwards selected are Christopher Wasasala, Sairusi Nalaubu, Epeli Valevou, Thomas Dunn (New Zealand-based) and Etonia Dogalau.

Fiji will be looking to upset the All Whites on March 21 at Sky Stadium to keep their World Cup dream alive.
