Former Fiji 15s Rep and FRU rugby director Koli Sewabu has hinted on getting a top executive role with the Fiji Rugby Union.
He revealed this at the Leaders LEAD Symposium 2025 held at the Sofitel Resort Fiji and Spa in Denarau yesterday.
“I resigned from my Sports Diplomacy role with Rugby Australia and Oceania Rugby in February last year,” Sewabu said.
“And started my own consultancy firm. I’ve spent the last year establishing myself in that space.
“Months ago I was pursuing a position with Fiji Rugby.
“I have been shortlisted four times for this position in the last 4-5 years.
“I was adamant this time that it will be mine, everything seems to align.
“And during one of my early mornings by a river a few weeks ago, the Lord’s voice was very clear and immediately I wrote this down reposition / realignment of position.
“I do not know what it is but I know something bigger is coming.”
Sewabu is the founder and CEO of Backrow Management based in Sydney, Australia.
“I am just about to expand the business, an offer just landed on my lap before I took off from Sydney yesterday (Sunday).
“My current position has given me the responsibility to sit at the negotiation table with World Rugby and the Australian Government through DFAT over the last two weeks.
“To negotiate on legacy funds for the Pacific, and potential funds to grow Fiji Rugby to a position we’ve never been in more than a 100 years.”
Sewabu also said he was looking forward to the changes at the FRU.
“But what’s important is the people that we are going to bring in.
“I came in after lunch today with a very different perspective and I was sharing with a few of my colleagues, I was looking forward to the changes coming because I thought at some stage, the way Fiji rugby has on the media, national TV and so forth, is always been negative.
“So I was in the process of thinking, right, if I do take control I just wipe out people in there who I believe who were not productive enough to offer change to the company.”
