Chasing history, the SportsWorld Fiji Rugby under-20 side is looking to create a new legacy at the upcoming Super Rugby under-20 competition in New Zealand.
The team departed for New Zealand yesterday with their opening game against the Hurricanes scheduled for Saturday.
They have been training since December last year under the watchful gaze of head coach Senirusi Seruvakula.
With the tournament set to kick off this weekend, Seruvakula is reminded of the possibilities ahead.
The “no-nonsense” coach has challenged his young brigade that if the Fijian Drua women can do it in Super W, then the men can too in the U20 format.
“Everything is possible. I coached the first Super W team and we won, unbeaten so why can’t we do it with the men in Super Rugby under-20.
“I’ll make sure that we go there and make a mark,” he said.
While winning is the ultimate goal, Seruvakula also wants to see how confident the players will be at this level of competition.
“The message is to go out there and enjoy.
“This competition is different because the only team we know we are going to play is the Hurricanes in the first game.”
“If we win, we continue, win all three games, we win the tournament. It’s not going to be tough but for us it’s a big learning opportunity, we will gain a lot of experience from it before we come back and prepare for the Oceania,” the Super W winning coach added.
Meanwhile, the side was boosted with the additional sponsorship of SportsWorld Fiji.
The brand, Red Chief was announced as the official sandal sponsor of the Fiji Rugby Union.
