The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has appointed general manager Regulations Pranil Singh as its acting chief executive officer.

Mr Singh’s appointment comes after a career of more than 30 years in the private sector where he had held senior managerial positions in notable companies across both international and local stages.

Mr Singh was appointed general manager Regulations in June 2023 at a time when the FCCC was ramping up continued efforts to tackle cost of living concerns and embracing operational excellence.

FCCC board chairperson Cecil Browne announced the appointment yesterday following the resignation of former CEO Joel Abraham last November.

Mr Abraham has taken up a new role as executive director of the Asia Pacific Regulatory Centre (APRC) – a groundbreaking institution dedicated to advancing regulatory excellence and economic development across the Pacific and beyond.

“The board extends its deepest gratitude to Mr Joel Abraham for his dedicated leadership and invaluable contributions during his tenure as CEO,” Mr Browne said.

“Under his guidance, FCCC has strengthened its role in consumer protection environment. We sincerely thank him for his service and wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”

Mr Browne said during this transition, FCCC remained steadfast in its commitment to its mandate of safeguarding consumer rights and ensuring a well-regulated, competitive marketplace.

Through Mr Singh’s leadership, the FCCC aims to foster an environment that benefits Fijian consumers and businesses and ensure a balanced and thriving market ecosystem.

The acting CEO will serve in this capacity until the FCCC board finalises and announces the appointment of a new chief executive officer.
