APPLYING the basics well is what the Queen Victoria School Old Boys (QVSOB) rugby team’s assistant coach and former Flying Fijian Kini Murimurivalu says will help the side push forward in the new season of club games for the Suva Rugby Union.

The team faced defending champions Police Blue in their first match where they were beaten 21-22 at Buckhurst Park ground one yesterday.

Murimurivalu, who oversees the team’s strength and conditioning area emphasised on how the players were reminded of how victory would be theirs if certain principles were followed.

“A win can only come if there is unity within the team and if they apply the little things we teach them during training in the week,” the former Flying Fijian stressed.

“We would tell them that if you apply the basics learnt and implement the things taught to them then the scores will come so our focus is on the little intricate details we impart to them.”

Driving home such a vital point of key emphasis is of the essence for the young team, however Murimurivalu highlighted a key challenge the team faced.

“The players have been preparing well however we tend to face issues such as low numbers since we are not paid and that may be one of the challenges we are facing at the moment,” he mentioned.

Apart from the challenge faced, the team has been able to mitigate the hurdle due to being impressed with understanding the essence of time.

“What I would tell the players in order to encourage them is that nothing is difficult, the time you know what is expected of you in the field, the easier things become,” Murimurivalu said.
