THE Professional Team successfully defended their title in the Annual Pro versus Amateur Challenge, securing a commanding 12-3 victory over the Amateur Team at Denarau Golf Club on Saturday.
Despite a promising start for the amateurs in the morning session, where Shakil Pillay and Rizwan Mohd claimed an early win, the professionals proved too strong across the day, extending their dominance in the afternoon matches.
Their victory marks the fourth consecutive year the pros have outclassed the amateurs in this highly anticipated event.
Golf Fiji president Amitesh Chandra praised the competitive spirit displayed by both teams and was impressed with the turnout.
“The event continues to grow, providing a valuable platform for amateur golfers to test their skills against some of the country’s best professionals.
“The level of golf displayed today was outstanding. It’s always great to see professionals and amateurs competing side by side, and this event truly helps in the development of the sport in Fiji,” Chandra said.
Led by Tomasi Tuivuna, the professional team featured Roneel Prakash, Vikrant Chandra, Viliame Sorowale, Waisake Vati, Arvind Lal, Lotawa Delana, Praneel Prasad, Rajiv Prasad, and Dinesh Chand.
The amateurs, captained by Shakil Pillay, included Asish Chand, Nitulesh Mali, Rohit Chandra, Isei Waqa, Jeral Sharma, Alvin Sharma, Praveer Chand, Zavir Khan, Rizwan Mohd, and Kavitesh Prasad.
With the professionals maintaining their dominance, the amateurs will be eager to regroup and challenge for the title next year.
