Fiji Airways managing director and CEO Andre Viljoen is not going anywhere.
Refuting overseas reports that Mr Viljoen could be returning to Air Mauritius to take up the Chief Executive role, Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka said the rumours were not true.
“There is no truth in the rumours that Andre Viljoen is departing from Fiji Airways,” said Mr Gavoka.
“Mr Viljoen is doing a great job with our national airline.”
He said the Fiji Airways managing director was instrumental in keeping the airline afloat during COVID-19.
“Many airlines around the world had collapsed but not Fiji Airways.
“It survived through the stewardship of Mr Viljoen and grew from strength to strength.
“It’s now rated amongst the top 20 airlines in the world, grossing more than a billion dollars and returning very good profits.
“It is an employer of choice being highly sought after by our people due to its positive work environment, culture, values and benefits.”
He added the airline’s positive growth under Mr Viljoen has had a rippling effect on Fiji’s tourism industry.
“For our tourism, 70 per cent of our visitors arrive through Fiji Airways.
“We are very proud of Fiji Airways and salute Mr Viljoen and his team for the exemplary manner they are managing our national airline.”
