Fijian professional golfer Dinesh Chand is set to host his junior golf tournament on February 16 at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club, bringing together young talent from Fiji and Japan.

Sponsored by Chand himself, the one-day event aims to nurture the next generation of golfers while strengthening international ties in the sport.

Chand, who has had a successful career on the Japan Golf Tour, is passionate about giving back to the game that shaped him. Speaking about the tournament, he shared his excitement about being back home and contributing to the development of local golfers.

“It’s nice to be back home and supporting the local golfers. I come back once a year, and this tournament is a chance for us all to sit down together, have a chat, and enjoy the game.

“I love doing this, giving back to the community, the kids, and the people who love golf. My hope is to continue growing this event year by year,” Chand said.

The tournament will also feature junior golfers from Japan, adding an international flavor to the competition. Chand mentioned how much Japanese golfers love the sport and how they look forward to visiting Fiji, especially coming from the winter season.

“They love to come and see my country, where I started playing golf. It’s a great experience for them to mix with local golfers, and I hope we can continue to build this connection.”

The event has also received support from local sponsors, with Punjas and Vuksich & Borich contributing prizes for the participants. Chand expressed his gratitude for their backing, highlighting the importance of corporate support in growing golf in Fiji.

With young talents from Fiji and Japan teeing off at Denarau, Chand’s initiative continues to inspire and pave the way for the future of Fijian golf.
