TOYOTA Tsusho (South Sea) Ltd (TTS), trading in Fiji as Asco Motors has issued a recall notice for its Landcruiser 70 VD Diesel Turbo Engine vehicles.
In an announcement at the South Pacific Stock Exchange in Suva where it is listed, TTS stated the vehicles fell short of their manufacturer’s internal targets for Euro4 compliance.
“TTS wishes to notify the public that it has been recently informed by its manufacturing company Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) that the importation of 16 Landcruiser 70 VD Diesel Turbo Engine vehicles into Fiji falls short of TMC’s internal targets for Euro4 compliance,” it stated.
“All other vehicles sold in Fiji by Asco are Euro5 standard certified.”
Customers who had already purchased the vehicle model will be reimbursed, TTS stated.
“TMC had confirmed its decision to halt all production and any further sale of the Landcruiser 70 VD Diesel Turbo Engine vehicles and confirms that Fijian customers who have purchased this model be offered either a refund or the option of replacing their vehicle with a GD engine at no cost to the impacted customer.
“All non-compliant VD model Landcruiser 70 vehicles will be returned to their port of origin.”
The company further stated that Asco is working to ensure the return “of all impacted vehicles” and advised the public not to purchase the model.
Asco Motors currently has a recall notice issued in 2018 and still in force on all Toyota-modelled vehicles purchased from the company between 2001 and 2015, which had been fitted with faulty Japanese-made airbags.
TTS, which operates in Fiji, Tonga, Samoa and American Samoa, is listed on SPX and its shares last traded at $20.26 a share when this edition went to press.
