Returning to where they once were as part of the top eight teams in the HSBC SVNS series is the crux for Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s player Lavena Cavuru and her teammates.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist shared the side’s intentions in an interview with Fiji Rugby recently.

“Our target this year as coach (Timoci Volavola) has already stressed to us in the past few weeks is for us to return to the top eight and be a core team which is why we have been camping through the holidays,” Cavuru emphasised.

With Cavuru returning to the game after a lengthy hiatus in 2021, her presence in the game meant she was heavily involved in getting herself back into donning the white national jumper.

“I believe it has been seven years since I returned to rugby to continue with the national team as I worked hard to get back into the team,” she said.

“From 2019 to 2021 was when I started to be completely involved in the national team (while) most of the senior players have moved on to other clubs and opportunities.”

“I thank God that I am still able to be around, be among the younger girls and still have the talent to continue this journey.”

While the team has fielded mixed results in the first two stops for the 2024/2025 HSBC SVNS Series and sit at 11th place with four points in current standings, they finished sixth overall in the 2023/2024 season.
