BA Town was brought to a standstill yesterday morning as the Ba River burst its banks, flooding roads and bridges and forcing residents to abandon their daily activities.

Among the affected locations was the Rarawai FSC Mill Road and bridge, which became submerged as rising waters swamped the area. People were seen wading through knee-high floodwaters, trying to return home safely.

Litiana Lebaivalu, an FSC resident, shared her experience.

“I went to work this (yesterday) morning, but I’m heading back home now,” she said as she carefully made her way along the flooded FSC bridge.

The flood not only impacted workers but also disrupted business and travel through Ba Town.

The residents have been urged to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel as the authorities continue to assess the extent of the flood damage.

Police officers were deployed to monitor movement and ensure public safety around the town.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu called on everyone to be prepared for the worst as reports of flooding continued to come in.
