As school starts next year, students of Navuakece District School in Naitasiri will use their newly opened classroom block.
The building which was officially opened by the Japanese Embassy’s Chargé d’affaires ad interim, Takada Isami and the Education Minister, Aseri Radrodro was worth $F412,134.
The Government of Japan provided $F172,100 to Navuakece District School for the construction of the school building under its Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Program while the rest of the funds were provided by the Fiji Government.
Mr Radrodro expressed his heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the Coalition Government to the Government of Japan for their steadfast commitment and invaluable support.
He stated that the Japanese Government’s commitment to education, in a far-flung place in the highlands like Navuakece was truly commendable.
“This project is not just about new buildings, they are safe and happy places where our little learners can explore, learn, and grow,” he said.
“It means a lot to them, and it means a lot to us because it’s about giving them the right place to start their education journey.
“These classrooms are the havens for conducive learning for the vanua of Navuakece.”
Japanese Embassy’s Chargé d’affaires ad interim, Takada Isami said it was an honour to handover the classroom block to the school.
Mr Isami said as the school roll increased, its infrastructure in the past two years wasn’t enough to cater for the increase.
He said the difficult situation faced by the school and the importance of supporting the education sector, they decided to provide funding for the construction of the new classroom block.
The new facility will improve education for the students of Navuakece and provide a better learning environment for the students.
