Fiji is expected to have a fully digital immigration system by the end of 2025.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica made this comment at the launch of Grant Thornton Audit Assurance, Tax and Advisory Services (GT) at the GPH in Suva on Tuesday.
He said the Government was reviewing immigration policies to better align to the needs of a modern economy, simplifying business processes to attract talent and encouraging Fijians abroad to return with expertise and investment.
“We hope by the end of 2025 we will have a fully digital immigration system to service the country’s needs to rebuild resilience against global uncertainties,” Mr Kamikamica said.
“This shift aims to create and increase transparency and accountability across public and private sectors.”
He said the Government was focused on digitising its services, expanding digital tools for businesses and developing supportive policies of FinTech, e-commerce and digital communication in the country.
“We recognise the importance of digital transformation for improving efficiency and service delivery and this shift aims to create and increase transparency and accountability across public and private sectors.
“Fiji is diversifying its economy beyond tourism, by investing in renewable energy, commercial agriculture, agro processing and in industries such as technology and green manufacturing.”
He said the strategic diversification not only reduced risks but opened up new opportunities for growth, employment and revenue generation.
