The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) Commissioner, Babara Malimali, has yet to review the approval of further disclosures in the case involving former Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) CEO Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and current CFO Vimlesh Sagar.

FICAC lawyer Mary Takinana informed Suva Magistrate Krishan Prasad that while a written response was prepared, it still awaited Ms Malimali’s review.

The defence lawyers declined to have their clients enter pleas until full disclosures were furnished. Magistrate Prasad has given FICAC until January to confirm its position on the charges.

Sayed-Khaiyum faces charges of abuse of office for gain and general dishonesty causing a loss, allegedly incurring $138,813.37 in legal costs without the board’s approval between July 2017 and January 2023.

Sagar is charged with general dishonesty causing a loss, accused of authorising $15,075.88 in payments to R Patel Lawyers without the board’s approval in 2023.

The case will resume on January 24.
