ETHAN John, a passionate swimmer from the Seals Swimming Club, has quickly made a name for himself in Fiji Swimming Age National competition held at the Damodar Aquatic centre in Laucala Bay on Sunday.

In just three years, the young athlete has already secured second place in two of his events and proudly came third in the 50m fly race.

Though Ethan initially wanted to play rugby, his mother felt that the sport was too dangerous for him.

Swimming became the perfect alternative, and it’s a choice he’s come to love.

“My mom never allowed to play rugby, but she always allowed me to swim,” Ethan shared.

Presently a student at Central High School, he balances a demanding academic schedule with his training.

“Since I am in school, I have a hard time balancing these two,” he says.

When things get tough, Ethan leans on his faith for guidance.

“Whenever I’m struggling, I ask the Lord for guidance.”

Ethan’s love for swimming isn’t just about personal success. He aims to make his family proud and shares a message of encouragement with others.

“For those thinking about swimming, remember it’s mind over matter. If you set your mind to it, you can achieve anything.”
