Vodafone Fiji Bati rep and West Tigers prop Jordan Miller is grateful for the mentorship provided by senior players as they gear up to take on the Cook Islands Aitu in the second round of the Pacific Rugby League Bowl Championship tomorrow.
At 19-years-old, Miller feels a sense of pride in earning the opportunity to represent his country, with his grandparents serving as his main source of inspiration.
Following a satisfying performance in a recent match against Papua New Guinea, where he received valuable game time in the second half, he also cherished the chance to play in front of his family.
“It was a good match against Papua New Guinea over the weekend. Got a little game time in the second half. Happy with my performance,” said Miller.
“Also, a great opportunity playing in front of my family, and my two biggest heroes, my grandparents.”
Despite facing a tough opponent in Papua New Guinea, Miller acknowledges their superiority and emphasises the importance of focusing on the upcoming game against the Cook Islands.
“We had a tough match with them (PNG). They were a better side, so now we just put the last game behind us and focus on this week’s game.
“We got another tough battle for us this week against Cook Islands. Preparations have been going well, looking forward to the match.”
Participating in these significant games hold immense value for him, and he appreciates the camaraderie and support within the team.
“Being the youngest, it’s been a challenge. First I came in camp I was shy, but I thank the boys for helping me out, especially Viliame Kikau and Tui Kamikamica for being there and guiding me through the process.”
The Bati will take on Aitu at 8.10pm on Saturday at the HFC Bank Stadium.
