The monitoring of teacher performance in schools is done by heads of schools, says Education Minister Aseri Radrodro.
Responding to a question from Opposition MP Hem Chand, Mr Radrodro said heads of schools were qualified and knew the basic teachings and learning plans that they set out for their respective classes in their respective schools, despite how far they were from the main centres.
“They are expected to perform a very crucial role in monitoring and assisting the teachers and students in their respective schools,” he said.
Mr Radrodro said that in terms of teaching hours, the early childhood requirement was a minimum of 20 hours per week, primary school 35 hours per week and for secondary school 37 and a half hours per week.
On the issue of the lack of teachers in certain fields of study in schools, Mr Radrodro said the issue was an inherited one “which he (Hem Chand) was responsible for when he was in charge of the human resources department”.
“He is fully aware of the situation, but don’t worry we are working to provide the necessary teachers as needed by the respective schools,” Mr Raidrodro said.
