THE Fiji National University (FNU) has 53 per cent of the total Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) students enrolled at its schools.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has informed Parliament there are 15,666 students currently being funded by TSLS in 2024.
Of this number, 8333 students are at FNU while 4280 are studying at the University of the South Pacific.
The University of Fiji has 902 TSLS students while 319 are at the Sangam Institute of Technology, 142 at Fulton College and 100 at Corpus Christi Teachers College.
Mr Radrodro said TSLS disbursed $56million to various tertiary education institutions in the 2022-2023 financial year and $62m in the 2023-2024 financial year.
An amount of $30.7m was given to FNU by TSLS in 2023-2024 while USP received $13.1m, University of Fiji got $6.6m while Sangam Institute of Nursing got $1.9m.
“TSLS has continuously been working on strengthening the policies to ensure transparent and efficient management of taxpayer funds for scholarships and study loans,” said Mr Radrodro.
“In 2023, there were 13,860 students funded by TSLS under scholarships and study loan schemes at various tertiary education institutes while in 2024, there are 15,666 students currently being funded by TSLS.”
