TACIRUA Heights residents are frustrated at the number of times they’ve experienced water cuts over the years.
Resident and shopping centre owner Vueti Maraiwai of Maraiwai Stores said the inconsistent water supply to Tacirua Heights and nearby areas had affected their daily life so much that it had now become almost a norm.
“These inconsistent water supplies have affected our sanitation and our cleaning, especially when we need water for food,” Mr Maraiwai said.
“I have three employees at the store, so whenever there is no water for a long period of time, I just tell them to stay home and not come to work.
“Water tanks can only cater for us for some time because at times there are longer periods when the water supply is cut off.”
Water Authority of Fiji communications officer Peni Shute said a team was still working on boosting the supply to elevated areas such as Tacirua Heights.
In the meantime, he encouraged the residents to store water in tanks.
“The place where it’s situated is elevated, so only when the reservoir is at its peak can they get a consistent water supply,” Mr Shute said.
“When the water levels drop, they’ll be the first to experience water issues, so we’ve always told the residents to invest in water tanks and then wait for water trucks to bring water to the people.
“It’ll be an issue like that for some time until we can connect the Viria system to boost supply.”
