WITH extensive preparation under their belts, the Digicel Fiji Young Kulas are on the cusp of a crucial moment, according to Fiji Football Association chief executive Mohammed Yusuf.
As the Fiji Young Kulas gear up to face Brazil at Estadio Atanasio Girardot in Medellín, Colombia, they are set to etch their names in history as the first Fiji women’s team to compete in a FIFA Women’s World Cup at any level.
Yusuf emphasises the team’s comprehensive training regimen, which involved both local practices and internationals.
“We have done our training sessions locally, and also international friendlies against Costa Rica and Morocco. Playing against teams that are higher ranked, add more experience,” said Yusuf
“This preparation has equipped the Young Kulas with valuable experience leading up to their World Cup debut against Brazil.”
Yusuf commends the team’s readiness on all fronts, physically, mentally, and spiritually.
He expresses confidence in the players’ ability to perform well and bring pride to their country, taking each game as it comes.
“It’s great to see the team fully prepared. We will take one game at a time, and I know the girls will get the job done and make our country proud.”
Despite being placed in a challenging Group B alongside France, Canada, and their opening rival Brazil, the Young Kulas are ready to take on the competition.
Yusuf credits head coach Angeline Chua for her dedication to the team and is confident in her selection of the best squad for the World Cup.
The inclusion of three overseas players, including the standout 15-year-old Aliana Vakaloloma, adds valuable experience to the team.
Yusuf calls for unwavering support from fans as the Young Kulas aim to make history in their first World Cup appearance.
The side plays Brazil at 11am today.
