MOHAMMED Emwazi has reportedly apologised to his family for the problems he has caused them after being unmasked as Islamic State executioner “Jihadi John”.
The Sunday Times of London reports that the 26-year-old, a British computer science graduate, expressed his remorse from Syria through a third party.
Emwazi is reportedly sorry for “problems and trouble the revelation of his identity has caused” for his parents and siblings, who are in hiding after the IS butcher was identified. Dad Jasem Emwazi, 51, reportedly fled to Kuwait.
However, the University of Westminster graduate has not apologised for the on-camera beheadings of Western hostages or his involvement in the terrorist network.
Experts say the apology was disingenuous or self-interested, as Muslims who disrespect their parents are believed to go to hell, The Independent reports.
Emwazi reportedly escaped Britain in 2013 by hiding in a freight lorry before travelling to Turkey and on to Syria.
How a potential terrorist suspect managed to slip through the net and fall into the clutches of extremists has been the subject of continuing arguments over the role of security services and authorities.
In a 2010 email exchange with Mail on Sunday security editor Robert Verkaikat, Emwazi said he considered suicide after coming face-to-face with what he suspected to be a British intelligence official as he attempted to sell a laptop computer.
He said he felt harassed by security services in a series of emails in 2010, three years before he left to join Islamic State, saying: “Sometimes I feel like a dead man walking, not fearing they (MI5) may kill me.”
He continued: “Rather, fearing that one day, I’ll take as many pills as I can so that I will sleep for ever! I just want to get away from these people!”
