“I’d like to stay.”

These were the words of Fiji 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau when asked about his future with the national men’s team.

Kolinisau had signed a six-month contract with the Fiji Rugby Union and officially took over the coaching role in March.

He worked with the Fiji 7s team in a span of four months and went on to claim silver at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, following dismal results at the 2023-2024 HSBC World SVNS Series.

This means his contract will expire next month but both Kolinisau and FRU have indicated their interest to further their partnership.

“I’ll see what they want, I’d like to stay but it’s up to them, a few negotiations will happen but I’m proud of where we are at right now,” Kolinisau said.

Kolinisau will hand over his report from Paris today.

“I have to sit down with FRU and the board. My contract runs out after the Olympics, it’s a six-month contract,” he said.

FRU Board of Trustees chair Peter Mazey had earlier told Times Sport that they intend to keep Kolinisau on and continue coaching the Fiji 7s team into the new rugby sevens season.
