While 70 per cent of Fiji’s population are below the age of 40 years, the majority of the nation’s unemployed citizens are also in this category, says Employment Minister Agni Deo Singh.

He highlighted this while officiating at the 2024 Western Division Mini Job Fair at Nadi’s Koroivolu Park recently.

“This event marks a significant step in our ongoing effort to facilitate employment opportunities and foster economic growth within the Western Division and across the nation,” Mr Singh said.

He said he was grateful for all those who turned up at the event, including about 20 employers who set up booths to “help alleviate our local workforce skills shortage”.

“The national employment top most prioritised policy was to highlight the need to create more opportunities for young people to follow clear pathways from education to productive employment.

“This fair aims to bring together job seekers and employers.”

Mr Singh said they did recognise that finding suitable employment could be a daunting task and through this initiative, they were seeking to create a platform where opportunities and talents converged in one place.

“Our nation is blessed with a young and dynamic workforce, however, to harness its potential, it is imperative that we provide our job seekers with the necessary tools and opportunities to excel.

“This job fair is not about securing jobs, it is about building careers and fostering employment growth and ensuring sustainable livelihoods.”
