ABC Radio Australia’s Pacific Break, the largest music competition in the Pacific, made its debut in Fiji with a live performance on Wailoaloa Beach, Nadi last Saturday.
Pacific Break 2023 winner and Fijian rapper songwriter Ju Ben, together with international performers Danielle and Sprigga Mek from Papua New Guinea, who had both won competitions in the past, were the main performers at the concert.
The winners of Pacific Break 2023, Bibao and Lonna from the Solomon Islands, Ratu and Oni from Fiji, also took the stage.
Ju Ben’s performance of his Pacific Break winning song Sema Mai as well as his onstage collaboration with PNG rap sensation Sprigga Mek were two of the evening’s highlights.
The Pacific Break 2024 was co-hosted by ABC Radio Australia’s music presenter and Pacific Break judge, Sose Fuamoli, and ABC Australia’s The Pacific broadcaster, Johnson Raela, concluded with resident reggae DJ and Island Music presenter Rick Howe spinning the decks.
The Fiji launch concert marks the beginning of a two-month long quest to find the best original unsigned talent in the Pacific and Timor-Leste.
Pacific Break’s top prize is an all-expenses-paid trip to perform in 2025 at WOMADelaide – Australia’s largest international music festival.
The winning artist or group will be revealed on ABC Radio Australia’s flagship daily morning program Nesia Daily on October 2.
Entries close at midnight on Sunday, August 25,2024.
