FIJI, like many other Pacific Island nations have not made good use of trade opportunities with Japan, says Akiko Takahashi who is the deputy director of the Pacific Islands Centre based in Tokyo.
She said they have marketed Fiji’s products to the business community in Japan but consistency has been an issue from suppliers including other Pacific Islands.
“Right now, the major export from Japan to Fiji are second hand vehicles,” she said.
“Över the past years, we have been engaged with those in Fiji and our business community in Japan have been very interested to import from that side but consistency has been an issue.”
