The Valelevu Health Centre has undergone an upgrade costing $30,000, thanks to a project implemented by the Rotary Club of Suva Peninsula Sunset.

Club president Jason Chandra said the refurbishment included the installation of new benches in the waiting area, donation of a new washing machine, new curtains for the emergency department, refurbishment and maintenance of the washrooms.

The group also provided a water pump and a concrete base for the water tank.

Mr Chandra said these upgrades were not just improvements to a facility, they were enhancements to significantly improve patient experience and efficiency of Fiji’s healthcare services.

“This initiative was made possible through the generous funding from the Rotary Club of Suva Peninsula Sunset, with special thanks to our major donor, Mr Champak Kapadia of Brijlal Fiji which was to a tune of $20,000,” he said.

“We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to all members of the Rotary Club who participated in the fundraising efforts that brought this timely assistance to fruition.”

The group also acknowledged the contributions of past president Gyaneshwar Prasad, special projects director Jai Kumar and the Valelevu Health Centre board of visitors.

The health centre serves between 60,000 and 80,000 people in its immediate vicinity.
