THE Fijian Drua base in Nadi has been a hive of activity this week with four national teams making use of the training facility.
The Flying Fijians, the Fiji Airways Fijian men 7s, the Vodafone Fijiana XV, and the Sports World Fiji under-20 teams are utilising the facilities available for free by Drua as they prepare for important campaigns in the coming weeks. Fijian Drua chief executive Mark Evans said they are happy to help with national cause.
“At the Drua facility, all teams can use our fully equipped gym with specialised rugby training gear like scrum sleds, ski machines, vertical jump sets (forcedecks), indoor running track, a dedicated activation area with wrestling mats, and other gear.
“They’re also able to use our state-of-the-art temperature-controlled ‘i-cool’ ice baths to assist in athlete recovery and our in-house medical centre specialising in rehabilitation for injured players,” he said.
In their effort to develop pathways for players below the age of 20, the Drua assigned two of its coaches to the Fiji U20 set-up.
“We are committed to the development of young pathway players in Fiji, so we are especially happy to assist the Fiji U20 team prepare for the U20 championships in South Africa. We have assigned two Drua coaches — Ifereimi Rawaqa and Greg Fleming — to the Fijian U20s coaching set-up at no cost to the FRU.”
The 7s side are preparing for the Paris Olympics and they will host the Australian 7s for four scrimmaging sessions next week. The Fijiana side will play its second Test against Japan on Thursday at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
