Fiji’s judiciary added a new member to its ranks yesterday as Preetika Priyadarshni Prasad was officially sworn-in as the Master of the High Court of Fiji in a ceremony at the State House.
The event was officiated by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere and attended by key judicial figures, including Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo, Solicitor-General Ropate Green, and Chief Registrar Tomasi Bainivalu.
Ms Prasad began her career in the office of the Attorney-General in 2005 as a legal officer and was later promoted to State Solicitor.
Over her 18-year career, she has also served as acting Solicitor-General and Director of Lands, becoming the first woman in Fiji to hold these roles.
Ms Prasad has a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Waikato in New Zealand and is admitted to the bar in several jurisdictions, including the High Court of Fiji, the High Court of New Zealand and the Supreme Court of New South Wales.
She is highly experienced in civil litigation, complex commercial matters, advisory work, policy and governance, legislative reforms and public international law, with a special focus on Property Law and Constitutional & Administrative Law.
Her extensive experience and expertise are expected to greatly benefit the judiciary.
