Despite the muddy and rainy weather, the newly-formed Waqavuka Knights’ open men’s team from Nadi did not let it deter them as they faced off against the experienced Fiji team in the Elements Touch Rugby tournament at Veiuto Primary School grounds yesterday.

Despite their best efforts, they ultimately went down 2-0.

Team captain Rusiate Katonitabua said the competition was tough.

“We were ready for whatever Suva’s weather threw at us, it was a good challenge, and we wanted to test our skills against some top teams,” said Katonitabua.

“Playing against the Fiji team was a great experience even though we fell short by just two points.

“Not bad for our first time in the tournament. We kind of put this team together last minute, but we still held our own.

“The Fiji team had their basics on point, passes, and communication was too good. There’s always room for improvement especially in our defence and passing,” he added.

“We’ll work on refining those skills for the next competition, this tournament was just the beginning for us and I’m excited to see how we can grow and come back even stronger in future games.”

Katonitabua thanked the Nadi Touch Rugby Association for allowing them to compete in Suva and appreciated the support from the Suva clubs.
