Swire Shipping Fijian Drua men’s assistant coach Glen Jackson has been appointed as the new head coach for the team.
Fijian Drua CEO Mark Evans said a thorough process took place before Jackson’s appointment.
“Glen has already made a tremendous contribution to the Drua since our inception in 2022,” said Evans.
“The Board is delighted to appoint Glen to the role after a thorough process. Glen has wonderful ideas which will allow the Fijian Drua to have even greater success moving into the future,” the Drua CEO added. Jackson is a former international referee who officiated over 100 first class fixtures, and a Super Rugby Pacific flyhalf for the Chiefs with 60 appearances over five years.
He was also, recently, an assistant coach for the Flying Fijians, which included the 2023 Rugby World Cup campaign.
“I’m very excited about the future to work with quality players and for the chance to develop leaders,” Jackson said in a statement released by the franchise.
“The Drua can change people’s lives and Rugby is our national sport. I am committed to ensuring Fiji continues to make a stand in Super Rugby Pacific, grows the game and sets a platform for the next generation,” Jackson added.
Jackson will continue to assist current Drua head coach Mick Byrne until the end of this season before fully taking up the role.
The Drua travel to play the Highlanders in Dunedin in round 14 of the Shop n Save Super Rugby Pacific this Sunday.
The match kicks off at 2.05pm.
