MEMBERS of three landowning units at Nawailevu and Lekutu in Bua are planning to go big on their newly-established cattle and sheep farming soon.
Thanks to XINFA Aurum Exploration (Fiji) Ltd, the members received 10 sheep and five cows last December to help them start up their livestock farming.
Speaking on behalf of the members, landowner Tevita Raiova said the new business venture was another way forward for them.
“We are very much appreciative to the company for having the heart to help us improve our daily lives,” Mr Raiova said.
“While we are starting on a small scale, we hope that we will increase our production not only to meet the local demand, but internationally as well. This is really a tremendous assistance and we convey our sincere gratitude to the company for their assistance.
“The plan is to increase our livestock productions and trade them with our local consumers and if all goes according to plan, we will venture out to the other consumers out there.”
Company executive director Sang Lei said this was part of their community engagement.
“We decided to extend our assistance to the landowners as we wanted to help them with their livestock farming,” Mr Lei said.
“We donated the sheep and cattle to them because we wanted to encourage them to do such farming.”
