Lora Francesca, the barefoot runner who defied the odds in the gruelling 3000m race during the Suva Zone Two meet, had seniors from her school in numbers to support her at the Fiji Finals.
As spectators from Rampur College looked on, their admiration for Lora’s feat was palpable.
Caleb Nacewa, a 17-year-old student, voiced the sentiments of many as he emphasised the importance of showing support and solidarity.
“It’s really hot here today (Friday),” he remarked, “but we endure it all for Lora, it was worth it I’d say.”

Indeed, the heat was intense, and the tracks unforgiving. Yet, Lora’s determination knew no bounds.
Filina Racheal Lavelua, another student from Rampur College, marvelled at Lora’s ability to navigate the scorching tracks without the support last year.
“That sort of raw talent is unmatched,” she said.
“Lora is an inspiration to all of us, cause to be honest, I don’t know anybody with that kind of skill to do it in hot sun and again without track shoes.
“We all gather here to make sure she gets that help, that support because, like Caleb said , small support can create a huge difference.”
Unfortunately, Lora did not finish her race in the open girls 3000m.
“We love Lora regardless of the outcome,” Caleb says. “She got through it without track shoes and almost finished her race, there is always next year and we’ll wait to see what she does next.”
