Feast of love

MOST restaurants in the Capital City are fully booked for Valentine’s Day while others have been working tirelessly to cater for couples, partners and lovebirds celebrating the special event since Thursday.

Maya Dhaba director Harminder Singh said even though they were fully booked for tonight they were still able to take reservations for walk-in customers.

“We have decorated the place with red and white balloon so that our customers can feel that love is in the air experience,” Mr Singh said.

Maya Dhaba boasts an array of authentic Indian recipes, fresh ingredients and exotic spices — all entwined with flavours to give customers a menu packed with good taste and fresh food. Mr Singh said business would continue as normal, however, couples and partners could opt for candlelight dinner to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

“We’re also giving away chocolates after every dinner to our customers as a treat for the night,” he said.

Tiko’s Floating Restaurant has been receiving Valentine’s Day bookings since last month.

Restaurant manager Zoe Johns said they were fully-booked for the night but were willing to cater for walk-in customers.

“Customers will come in and order. We also have live entertainment from Jese Mucunabitu,” she said.

“Every year we see how commercialised Valentine’s Day is and for us, people pre- book well before time.”

THINGS TO DO: By Geraldine Panapasa

* Organise a romantic Valentine’s Day meal.

* Spend the day at the park or beach. Recreational areas such as Thurston Gardens or My Suva Park are open to the public. Some private beaches around the Pacific Harbour area are perfect for a day visit.

* Organise a gift exchange with friends. Gifts could be less than $5 or $10 and could be found at local gift shops.

* Plan a movie date or movie marathon indoors. All you need is company and munchies.

* Valentine’s Day could be the perfect time for an overdue vacation.
