THE Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations has no power to investigate the non-payment of Fiji National Provident Fund deductions by employers.

Mediator for the ministry, Tomasi Keni, told a public consultation in Rakiraki yesterday that only FPNF has the power to investigate any breaches.

“Unfortunately, the FNPF issues should be raised directly with FNPF,” Mr Keni said.

“I was one of the officers in the ministry who used to investigate FNPF matters when complaints were raised.

“In 1995, FNPF requested that the work we were doing should be done by them.

“So, they appointed their own inspectors, and they move around the country to confirm if contributions are made.”
