Rashmini Sharma was one of two graduates to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy at the USP’s Laucala Campus graduation yesterday.

The 31-year-old graduated with a PhD in Business and Administration through a course in which she had to balance her 8-5 job at the ANZ Bank with her studies at USP and her family.

“Most of the academics were able to study full-time at USP, but I had my job, then I had to go to USP to study and then go home to spend time with my family.

“It took up to four years to complete my PhD, and it was a long journey to get here.”

Ms Sharma said her studies focused on domestic travel behaviour which became of relevance during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“So, I believe this PhD has contributed a lot in terms of how we can attract our locals to engage in domestic travel behaviour,” she said.

Ms Sharma expressed gratitude for the support of her friends, her husband and family and her work organisation.

“My supervisors also provided me with all the mentoring and the necessary coaching.

“I’m so glad that my husband completed his PhD two years ago, so he provided a lot more support.”

Her advice to anyone seeking higher education is good time management and discipline.
